Well, the late spring has served-up some good weather and fishing! The Chinook have been averaging 7 to 15 lbs and have been caught on the reef with hoochies or anchovies the lures of choice. This coming week, there will be some low tides for exploring the multitude of aquatic life in the tidal pools and the seals sunning on the exposed rock reefs and the sea lions continue to frolic out front. There has been some humpback whales observed, as well!

September 4th , 2016, you know Fall is fast approaching when the Otters replace the kids playing on the raft. September 2016 Fishing

Some recent catches in September, on the 9th Bob Bosma was out, guided by his wife Cheryl and he caught 2 springs a 16 and a 7 pounder.
On September 10th Jean Rowe caught a nice 15 and a half pound spring.
Bullhead Derby 2016

The 2016 Bates Beach Bullhead Derby took place on Sunday July 31, 2016. There were over 20 participants with minimal adult support used to catch their fish. John Bates officially started the derby at 10:30 with the first fish being weighed in by Jacecy Wells at 10:36. The Derby, winners were tied with 6 bullheads measuring 20cms in length with the eventual winner Mikenna Pruit from California being declared the winner as she had bullheads caught and measuring the greatest overall length. All the bullheads were released unharmed back into the water.
2016 Fishing update

The fishing has been a little slow this spring but on May 24th John Bates brought in a nice 17.5 pound spring salmon and on June 7th Adria Russell guided by her father Mike Russell caught a nice 25.5 pound halibut.
