Treasure Island or the "Playground" at Bates Beach.

June 5th 's catch of a 56.5 pound halibut by Miles kilback assisted by his brother Brent.  The two brothers from Salmon Arm were fishing right out front of the Resort in about 180 feet of water fishing with halibut jigs "secret brand name" and hooked onto something big!!! 

     

The spring of 2015 has been quite busy with fishing and campers enjoying the unusually warm weather. Harold Bates brought in the first "bell Ringer" of 2015 and Mayor of Bates Beach  with a nice 16 pound spring caught on May 12th only to be dethroned 2 days later by Jean Rowe's nice 17 1/4 pounder on May 14th.    On May 30th Darrell Fossett and George Cofield caught a nice 25 pound halibut.

  

A killer whale was spotted off Bates Beach on Thursday December 4th in the morning by a local resident who notified the Department of Fisheries & Oceans. Once DFO staff, local Fisheries Office Dale Hunt actually determined it was in fact a Killer Whale he contacted George Bates to assist with the recovery of the body.  Using one of our rental boats we towed the dead Orca back to the beach where an necropsy will be done.  

     

You can always tell when fall is has arrived the kids are replaced by Blue Herons on the raft.  However this fall has also seem some good fishing.  Local fishers Ann and Carl Bitonti caught 2 nice springs the largest 14 1/2 pounds and Bob and Cheryl Bosma caught 2 nice coho the largest just over 10 pounds.
