Summer 2013
The summer is here, hot weather and warm water... at least at the surface of the ocean as the water temperature does not vary much between the summer and winter months at the deeper depths.  The kids are having a great time on the raft and with the low tides there are lots of beachcombing activities on the beach.  Many sand pails and shovels out there digging for treasurers.   One camper was out giving his dog a ride last night in a kayak.  The young ones have been enjoying kids club and painting rocks with Emma and Sharon.  The water has been quite calm so lots of boats out trying to catch the "big one" with lots of Coho being caught however only Hatchery are allowed to be kept for dinner.  The weather has really co-operated this year so far and everybody is having a great time.

Jean caught this 12 pounder June 8th at 9pm, just like old times "evening bite" on anchovy at 75 feet.

Ron McDonough landed this 11 lbs 12 oz spring on June 4, 2013. The water may have been dead flat but the fishing wasn't.

Pancake Breakfast
On Sunday May 19th, Bates Beach hosted their Annual Pancake Breakfast to the many campers registered for the long week-end. Happy campers feasted on the flapjacks and bacon cooked by George and John W.  Wendy and Jean ably assisted in the activity which was held under sunny blue skies. A royal salute to all in the first of our special events for Summer 2013! Next up, the Canada Day activities with a birthday cake and Scavenger Hunt for the kids. Plan on joining us for some camping fun then or at any time during the season!
Sea Lions
This past week has been very exciting out front.  First a number of Sea Lions have shown up mating and lounging around. From the pics notice how close in they are in front of the skidway and the fish table.  A few nights ago there was some excitement as six Killer Whales came in and actually caught one for dinner, just after 7pm. Sorry no pictures though as we missed them but a few of the campers were taken aback by the force of nature and survival in the wild!!!   aken bac
